THE TRIP

A Curated Surf Expedition Like No Other

Remote coastlines. Endless red dirt tracks. Empty lineups. World-class waves.

The North West is an all-inclusive guided surf adventure for 14 nights through some of Western Australia’s most isolated and iconic surf regions. Designed specifically for intermediate to advanced surfers, this expedition combines rugged 4x4 travel, remote camping and station stays, quality food, and unforgettable surf experiences along WA’s legendary Coral Coast.

Running from April through to October, this is the prime season to score powerful Indian Ocean swells, offshore winds, and warm days deep in the Australian outback.

Every trip is curated around swell, conditions, tides, and the experience of the group. No two expeditions are ever exactly the same.

FAQ

Is this trip right for my surf level?

  • Gnaraloo is known for long, powerful reef breaks and a true wilderness experience, making this expedition best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers who are comfortable surfing independently, paddling for extended periods, and navigating reef environments. You don't need to be charging double overhead waves, but you should be confident catching and riding green waves and managing changing conditions without constant instruction. If you're unsure whether it's the right fit, get in touch and we'll give you an honest assessment.

What are the waves like in the North West?

  • Gnaraloo is famous for long, fast, world-class reef breaks and remarkably consistent swell, ranging from playful walls to heavier sections that can test even experienced surfers. Combined with the area's remote location and uncrowded lineups, it delivers a raw surf experience that's become legendary among travelling surfers, with the possibility of scoring some of the longest rides of your life.

What boards should I bring?

  • For most surfers, we recommend bringing at least two boards: your everyday performance board and a step-up suited to larger or more powerful conditions, with experienced surfers bringing a broader quiver to take full advantage of the variety on offer. Hire boards can be arranged, but due to the remote nature of the region, options are limited, so advance notice is essential. We'll send detailed recommendations based on season and ability once you've booked.

Not sure what to bring? Just ask. We'll help you dial in the right equipment before the trip so you can focus on the adventure, not the logistics.

What's included in the price?

  • We believe great adventures should be straightforward. That's why we include as much as possible in the trip cost, typically accommodation, local transport, surf guiding, selected activities, and on-the-ground support, along with pre-trip planning assistance. Flights, travel insurance, personal expenses, optional activities, and equipment hire may not be included unless stated on the trip page, and every expedition comes with a clear list of inclusions and exclusions.

What's NOT included in the price?

  • Unless stated otherwise: international/domestic flights, travel insurance (required for all participants), visa and entry costs, meals/drinks not listed in the itinerary, personal spending money, surfboard hire, optional activities outside the itinerary, and airport transfers outside the designated windows. We can help arrange flights through our ATOL-protected flight partners.

Do I need a visa?

  • Visa requirements depend on your nationality, and it's your responsibility to have the correct documentation, we'll point you to the relevant government resources and can help clarify what's needed, but check entry requirements as early as possible since rules can change.

Are flights included?

  • No, flights aren't included, giving you flexibility over departure airport, airline, and schedule. We can help source flights through our ATOL-protected partners, and we'll provide recommended arrival/departure times once you've booked.

What airport should I fly to?

  • Perth Airport. Transport onward is included as part of the expedition, with full details on meeting points and pickup times provided before departure. We recommend waiting until your place is confirmed before booking flights.

What accommodation is provided?

  • Accommodation is as diverse as the coastline itself, ranging from comfortable holiday homes and coastal retreats to safari-style tents in some of the region's most remote and spectacular locations. Each stop is chosen to maximise access to the waves and immerse you in landscapes few travellers get to experience, expect unforgettable sunsets, star-filled skies, and genuine remote coastal wilderness throughout.

What makes this destination special?

  • Few places on earth feel as raw and untamed as Australia's North West, where red desert meets deep blue Indian Ocean and the region delivers some of Australia's most consistent, iconic waves. It's the isolation that truly sets it apart: long stretches of empty coastline, uncrowded lineups, and the freedom of being hundreds of kilometres from the nearest city. For surfers seeking genuine adventure, this is Australia at its wildest.

Can I travel solo?

  • Yes, many guests join solo. Trips are designed to bring like-minded travellers together through shared surf sessions, meals, and downtime, so you'll quickly become part of the group regardless of how you arrive.

THE CAMPS

Where you’ll stay

We’ll work our way through some of the most remote country in Australia, basing up where the waves are best, working pastoral stations, hard-deck safari tents and off-grid camps, hundreds of kilometres from the nearest town. At Gnaraloo Station, a working sheep station, you'll settle into cabin-style accommodation with panoramic ocean views and star-filled skies.
